Highway 19 in Honomū Now Open

Update: Highway 19 reopened around 9:45 p.m.. police stated.

Earlier Version: Big Island police are alerting motorists to avoid Highway 19 between the 11.5-mile marker and Honomū Road in Honomū for the next four hours.

The road is closed because of a traffic crash.

The Hawai’i Police Department reported at 7:26 p.m. that smaller vehicles are being detoured around the closure using Old Māmalahoa Highway. Large semi trucks will not be able to use the detour.

The detour is also only being used for Hilo-bound traffic.

Motorists should expect delays.
