A University of Hawai‘i at Hilo star — on and off the field — is one step closer to possibly being named National Collegiate Athletic Association Woman of the Year.

UH-Hilo soccer and academic standout Jodie Lillie was one of a few select student-athletes from throughout the country selected to represent her university in the race for the Woman of the Year honor and recently moved forward in the selection process.

She becomes part of an even smaller select group, moving on as one of just two selections for the Woman of the Year title in the Pacific West Conference. A UH-Hilo graduate with one more season left of soccer eligibility, Lillie joins Academy of Art’s Lauryn Henderson as the representatives from the PacWest.

From more than 500 initial submissions, Lillie is one of 151 conference nominees, including just 39 at the NCAA Division II level.

The next step in the process is the selection committee narrowing the field to a total of 30 candidates; 10 from each of the NCAA three divisions. Those candidates will be announced in September.

The final award winners will be announced later this fall.
