Firefighters Respond to Pāhoa Structure Fire

Big Island firefighters responded Monday afternoon, July 25, to a structure fire in Pāhoa.

According to a press release from the Hawai‘i Fire Department, the first units were on the scene just before 1:30 p.m. Monday at 12-0118 W. Moanauli Loop in Sea View Estates. Upon their arrival, firefighters found two single-story wooden structures — a 30-by-40-foot house and a 12-by-12-foot storage room — partially involved in fire.

There were no occupants or people found on the property at the time of the fire.

The fire was extinguished by shortly after 2 p.m. and the last units were back in quarters by 3:30 p.m. Seven units from the fire department responded. Officers with the Hawai‘i Police Department also responded to create a safe scene while firefighters battled the fire.

The scene was turned over to police and fire department inspectors to investigate the blaze and interview neighbors to determine its cause. While no one was found inside the structures or on the property at the time of the fire, the fire department press release said the residence seemed to be occupied and in normal use.

Total damages were estimated at $190,000. The owner of the property is unknown. The fire remains under investigation.
