Hilo Woman’s Club Awards Scholarships to 2 Ambitions Young Women
A Big Island women’s organization is helping two East Hawai‘i residents accomplish their goals.
The Hilo Woman’s Club announced that Rayanne Ganiron and Ema Shearin are the winners of this year’s club scholarships. Each will receive $1,000 to help cover tuition and education expenses.
Ganiron wants to administer a local health care facility provide good health care to the people of her community.
“I am honored to be a recipient for this year’s Hilo Woman’s Club Scholarship Program,” Ganiron said in a press release from the club. “I appreciate each and every one of you for helping make it possible for me to pursue my goals and dreams. This gift will positively impact my future career and prospects. I will work hard to achieve great success and keep you guys proud.”
Shearin has participated in many leadership activities in her high school as well as various community service events and projects. She assisted with a native plant restoration project and helped put together gift baskets for homeless teens and young women. Her goal is to work at the Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology Shark and Reef Fish Research Lab.
“Thank you so much for your generosity and for choosing me as one of your 2022 scholarship recipients,” Shearin said in the press release. “The impact that this award will have on my life is indescribable. This award will help fund my education at (the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo) as a marine science major. I plan to work as a researcher/conservationist with specialists in sharks and intertidal communities. Because of your generous award, our oceans will be one step closer to being clean!”
Hilo Woman’s Club awards scholarships each spring from funds raised through community events.
