Waimea Library to Host Free Online Event Featuring Director of HPA Sea Turtle Research Program
Thelma Parker Memorial Public and School Library in Waimea invites everyone to discover “Oceans of Possibilities” with an upcoming online event as part of the Hawai‘i State Public Library System’s 2022 Summer Reading Challenge.
The free event, “Sea Turtles of Hawai‘i and Beyond,” will be presented by veteran marine science educator Marc Rice, director of the renowned Sea Turtle Research Program at Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy in Waimea. The program is appropriate for anyone 9 and older and is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. June 17.
Rice has taught marine science for 55 years and has been involved in sea turtle research in Hawai‘i and abroad for 35 years. During the program, he will discuss the sea turtles found in Hawai‘i, Hawaiian sea turtle biology and ecology, nesting biology and distribution, current growth trends in the Hawaiian population and the Sea Turtle Research Program’s current projects.
