Weekly Road Closures: May 28 to June 3

The state Department of Transportation issued its weekly road and lane closure list for the week of May 28 to June 3. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

There will be no daytime roadwork scheduled on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day, unless permitted. Highway 130 special use lanes will not be operational.

— KANOELEHUA AVENUE (ROUTE 11) —

1) HILO

Single lane closure on Kanoelehua Avenue (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 2 and 3, E. Puainako Street and E. Palai Street, on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for shoulder stabilization.

— MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) —

1) PĀHALA

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 52 and 54, Maile Street and Ka‘alaiki Road, on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for grass cutting and shoulder work.

2) CAPTAIN COOK

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 108 and 110, in the vicinity of Nāpo‘opo‘o Road and Nanaina Lani Place, on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for shoulder work and sidearm mowing.

— HAWAI‘I BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) —

1) PAPAIKOU

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile marker 6.3, near Kapue Stream, on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for sewer force main repair.

2) PEPE‘EKEO

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile markers 9 and 11, Old Onomea Road and Makea Stream, on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mowing, mulching, and shoulder work.

3) HAKALAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction near mile marker 13.8, near Kolekole Beach Park, on Saturday, May 28 through Friday, June 3, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for bridge repair work.

4) HONOMŪ (24/7 RESTRICTION)

Kolekole Bridge at mile marker 14.27 on Hawai‘i Belt Road (Route 19) is weight restricted to 12 tons (24,000 lbs.) until further notice. The speed limit in the area is reduced to 25 mph. See https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/weight-limit-for-kolekole-bridge-now-12-tons/ for details.

— KEA‘AU-PĀHOA ROAD/ PĀHOA-KALAPANA ROAD (ROUTE 130) —

1) KEAAU

Single lane closure on Kea‘au-Pāhoa Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile markers 0.0 and 3, Highway 130 intersection with Hawai‘i Belt Road and Kea‘au High School, on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for installation of traffic loop detectors.

2) PĀHOA

Single lane closure on Pāhoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction near mile marker 15.4, Alaili Road, on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for pavement and guardrail improvements.

— MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) —

1) KAMUELA

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 3.9 and 6.9, Saddle Road and Cross Island Road, on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for shoulder widening, installation of rumble strips and other safety improvements.

— KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (ROUTE 250) —

1) KOHALA

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile markers 13 and 15, in the vicinity of Pu‘uhue Road, on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and shoulder work.

— ‘AKONI PULE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 270) —

1) KOHALA

Single lane closure on ‘Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) possible in either direction between mile markers 2 and 7, Kaewa Place and Ka‘ala Road, on Tuesday, May 31 through Friday, June 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and shoulder work.
