Registration Now Open For 21st Annual Native Hawaiian Convention
Registration is now open for the the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement’s 21st annual Native Hawaiian Convention.
“For two decades, the Native Hawaiian Convention has served as the largest and most consequential gathering of Native Hawaiians to discuss the pressing important issues facing our community,” Kūhiō Lewis, the council’s chief executive officer, said in a press release. “We are excited that this year’s convention will be the first held in person since the start of the pandemic more than two years ago.”
The 2022 convention is scheduled for July 19-22 at the Sheraton Waikīkī. This year’s theme is “Hulihia: Transforming Hawaiʻi Nei,” and the four-day gathering will feature discussions about cultural perpetuation, civic engagement and tourism transformation.
Native Hawaiian practitioners, educators, business leaders, health care and housing providers, kūpuna and the next generation of leaders will come together at the convention to discuss what matters most to the Native Hawaiian community. And for the first time ever, the convention will host the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards ceremony.
“As we reflect on Hawai‘i’s history, we see moments that are ripe for hulihia (transformation), windows where deep transformation will occur,” Lewis said in the press release. “There is perhaps no better time than today — as we begin to transition out of the pandemic — to boldly transform Hawaiʻi.”
Registration costs $75 for Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement members or $175 for non-members. Early bird rates are available through May 31, and meals and evening event tickets can be purchased for additional fees.
