Kawamoto Swim Stadium Temporarily Closes for Repairs
The “Sparky” Kawamoto Swim Stadium in Hilo is temporarily closed due to the unexpected shutdown of the pool’s filtration system over the weekend.
According to county officials, the system went down on Sunday, April 17. The Department of Parks and Recreation is working to address water quality and water clarity issues following the mechanical issue.
“The Department sincerely appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as we work through this issue to restore safe swimming conditions at the facility,” officials stated in a press release today.
The earliest the pool may potentially reopen would be Monday, April 25.
As the NAS Swimming Pool in Hilo is currently closed pending an upcoming major renovation project, the county swimming pools at Laupāhoehoe and Pāhoa Aquatic Center are the nearest options for those that want access to a public swimming pool. Hours of operation and contact information for these pools can be found here.
A public notice will be issued when the pool has been restored to safe swimming conditions.
