Flood Watch Cancelled For Big Island

The National Weather Service has cancelled a flood watch on Saturday for the Big Island through Sunday morning.

A flood advisory is currently in effect for North and South Kohala, Hāmākua, Hilo, and Puna Districts through this morning. A flood advisory means that flooding may occur on roadways, areas with poor drainage, and along streams. Heavy rain and Thunderstorms are possible this morning. There are reports of flooding in Hilo along Kamehameha Ave. and rocks on the roadway in all three gulches on HWY 19 in Hamakua.
A wind advisory is currently in effect for North and South Kohala and the Saddle. Twenty to thirty mph winds are expected with possible gusts of 50 mph.
A winter storm warning is also in effect for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa through Sunday morning. The forecast calls for heavy snowfall.
Due to the flood advisory, the following are issued:
· Residents in flood prone areas are asked to remain alert for flooding conditions.
· Be aware that road closures may occur without notice.
· Do not attempt to cross flowing water in a vehicle or on foot; turn around don’t drown.
· Be on the alert for malfunctioning traffic signals. Please treat flashing traffic lights as a four-way stop.
· Remember, if lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors.
