Firefighters Battle Blaze at Abandoned House in Keaʻau

A fire late Saturday night, April 2, ripped through a structure in Keaʻau.

According to a press release from the Hawaiʻi Fire Department, firefighters responded to a structure fire at 11:17 p.m. Saturday at 16-0577 Old Volcano Trail. The first unit was on scene by 11:23 p.m. and the blaze was brought under control shortly after.

Upon arriving, first responders found the two-story, 1,500-square-foot abandoned house fully involved in fire with its roof collapsed, according to the press release. The blaze was extinguished by 1:55 a.m. Sunday, April 3, and the last unit to leave the scene was back in quarters before 2:30 a.m.

The abandoned house had no value, according to the owner, and no injuries were reported.
