Hilo Man Found Squatting After Hotel Fire Charged in Separate Burglaries
A Hilo man who was originally taken into custody following a fire at Uncle Billy’s Hilo Bay hotel earlier this month has been arrested and charged for two burglaries and two different Hilo businesses.
Antanacious Nau, 30, was charged with six offenses stemming from the March 21 offenses, County of Hawai‘i Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen stated in a news release on Thursday.
He faces two counts of second-degree burglary, second-degree theft for taking tools valued at over $750, second-degree criminal property damage for allegedly damaging a fence and causing over $1,500 in damage), third-degree criminal property damage for $500 in damages, and third-degree theft for taking over $250 in drinks.
Nau is scheduled to appear in Hilo District Court on Thursday. He remains in custody in lieu of $42,000.
Nau was originally taken into custody for possession of drug paraphernalia and squatting after officers conducted a sweep of the former Uncle Billy’s hotel, which had burned during a March 4 fire. He was later released pending investigation on those matters.
