8 Deaths, 289 New Cases Reported Thursday

The state Department of Health reported 289 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, bringing the statewide total to 235,124. Eight new fatalities were reported.

A total of 38 new infections were identified Thursday on the Big Island. Hawai‘i County Civil Defense reported 817 active cases and 16 people hospitalized.

Testing for today is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo, noon to 2 p.m. at the Pāhala Community Center in Kaʻū and at 3-5 p.m. at the Nāʻālehu Community Center.

Testing for tomorrow, Friday is scheduled in North Kona at Old Kona Airport Pavilion from noon to 5 p.m. and in Puna at Pāhoa Community Center from 1 to 5 p.m.

Community testing hours will change starting next week Monday, Feb. 28, according to Civil Defense. For details about these changes and a comprehensive calendar and list of all pharmacies and clinics providing vaccination and testing, visit the Civil Defense website.

A total of 8,213 individuals have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 1,312 have died.
