Police to Host Drunk Driving Sign Waving in Hilo on Thanksgiving Day
Once again across Hawai’i County, traditional Thanksgiving travel plans may be changing because of the public health emergency, but that’s no excuse to change safe driving practices.
For those getting on the road this Thanksgiving, the Hawai’i Police Department has issued a reminder that there are two easy ways to help accomplish that — buckle up and don’t drive after consuming anything that could impair your ability to drive safely. HPD Officers have been stopping, issuing citations and arresting drivers making risky decisions behind the wheel since the public emergency began.
Today, the Hawai’i Police Department will hold a Holiday traffic safety sign waiving event in Hilo on Kanoelehua Avenue near the Walmart parking lot starting at 4 pm. This is being done as a reminder to all people to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. Officers will be out looking for unsafe drivers and will enforce the law strictly with anyone found to be driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
