The Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island (BGCBI) now offers after-school care in South Kona.

On Oct. 18, BGCBI staff and volunteers from Youth With a Mission (YWAM) Kona opened its after-school youth development program Monday through Friday at the Kona Hongwanji Mission.

In partnership with Konawaena Schools, BGCBI shuttles keiki from Konawaena Elementary and Konawaena Middle Schools. The program provides each child homework support, sports play and exercise, enrichment activities and a meal before they go home.

“BGCBI recognized the crucial need for after-school care in the South Kona area and quickly worked to open this Club,” BGCBI stated in a newsletter. “The partnership with the Konawaena Schools has been beneficial for BGCBI and South Kona families as we’re able to support those that need us the most.”
