An arson suspect led Big Island police on a unique chase through Kailua-Kona on Monday.

The suspect, yet unnamed by the Hawaii Police Department, allegedly started a small brush fire in the North Kona District. He was then attempted to flee the scene riding atop an automatic push lawnmower.

Several bystanders stuck in heavy traffic caught video of the suspect, as the mower buzzed slowly past their vehicles on the shoulder of the highway. Video can be seen at Hawaii News Now, which broke the story.

Police said the suspect was eventually apprehended and charged with the theft of the lawnmower, which they added that he was riding at the time of his arrest.
