Heavy Rains Threaten Flooding on Big Island Monday Night

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island until 9 pm Monday night, Sept. 27.

At 5:57 pm, satellite and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain over the lower slopes of leeward Big Island, between Kealakekua and Miloli´i. A rain gage in Honaunau reported heavy rain falling at a rate near two inches per hour.

Some locations that may experience flooding include Captain Cook, Honaunau, Kealakekua, Miloli´i and Hawai´i Volcanoes Park Kahuku Unit.

The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.
