COVID-19 Cases on Big Island Exceed 8K

The Hawaiʻi Department of Health reported 888 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, bringing the statewide total to 66,778. One new COVID-related death was reported.

A total of 128 new infections were identified on the Big Island Saturday. On Friday, Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Agency reported 1,823 active cases with 66 persons hospitalized.

The state’s two-week average is now 849 new cases daily, with a test positivity rate of 7.4%. A map documenting new cases by district across all islands can be accessed at the DOH website.

The island-by-island case count is as follows:

A total of 3,661 individuals have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 614 have died.

To date, a total of 1,882,907 doses of the vaccine have been administered statewide, with 63.8% of the population fully vaccinated at 72.1% who have received at least one shot.
