UPDATE: A previous version of this post indicated it was downed power lines that closed Highway 180 in North Kona. Hawaiian Electric reports that telephone lines, not power lines, have caused the issue.

Downed telephone lines have led to a road closure in the Big Island’s Kona District.

The Hawai´i Police Department reported on Thursday morning, July 22, that Highway 180 in North Kona is closed in both directions near the 2-mile marker due to downed telephone lines.

Crews are currently working to clear the roadway, though it is expected to be closed for several hours. Motorists should find alternate routes.

Downed power lines closed Napoopoo Road in South Kona for several hours on Wednesday, July 21.
