HPD Arrests 17 For DUI
Hawai`i Island police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant over the previous week. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 477 DUI arrests compared with 327 during the same period last year. This is an increase of 45.9%.

There have been 295 major accidents so far this year compared with 306 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.6%.
To date, there have been 10 fatal crashes resulting in 10 fatalities compared with eight fatal crashes resulting in eight fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 25% for fatal crashes, and 25% for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
