Truck, Trailer Slide Into Ocean at Honokōhau Harbor
The Hawaii Fire Department helped haul a truck and trailer from the ocean at Honokōhau Harbor after they became submerged there following an incident Sunday morning.
Upon arrival to the harbor, Rescue Company 7 met up with the owner of a black 2019 Toyota Tacoma Double cab with an EZ Loader trailer still attached, which submerged in approximately 10 feet of water at the North Mauka Ramp.
According to an HFD report, the sole occupant had placed his vessel into the water and exited the vehicle to secure it to the dock. At some point during that process, the unoccupied truck and trailer slid down the ramp and into approximately 10 feet of water.
A private tow company was called at the request and expense of the owner. Rescue 7 divers assisted the tow company with securing the vehicle for extrication.
It was determined that the vehicle was in park with the E-brake on, and the cause of the incident is still under investigation by State Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The truck and trailer were removed without incident. The owner was uninjured.
