A Volcano man is facing an assault charge after a reported altercation with a 75-year-old woman in the parking lot of a Hilo sports bar.

The incident occurred in the early morning of April 10 on the 300 block of Hualani Street. According to a press release from Hawai‘i police, officers responded to Hilo Medical Center where the woman was being treated for facial fractures and multiple other injuries as a result of the reported attack.

Through the course of their investigation, officers determined the suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Zachary Babosh, repeatedly hit the woman in the face outside the bar in the parking lot.

Babosh fled the island and traveled to O‘ahu before he could be arrested. HPD, however, did obtain an arrest warrant and collaborated with the United States Marshals Service and Honolulu Police Department after developing information that Babosh was possibly staying in the Waikīkī area.

Babosh was extradited back to the Big Island where the Hawai‘i County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney filed the charge of first-degree assault. His bail is set at $100,000.
