Kea‘au Man Dies Following Motorcycle Crash in Ka‘ū

A Kea‘au man is dead after a motorcycle crash in Ka‘ū on Saturday, April 10, 2021. Hawai‘i Police Department identified the victim as 60-year-old Ray Allen Riveira Sr.

HPD responded to the incident at 5:13 p.m., located .3 miles west (makai) of mile marker 68.5 on Highway 11. Through the course of their investigation, police determined that Riveira, who was traveling east on a blue Harley Davidson, drove off the right shoulder of the roadway and down a slight embankment, striking several rocks.

Riveira was transported to the Kona Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

The Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit has initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Officer Severo Ines at 808-326-4646 ext. 229 or email at mailto:severo.ines@hawaiicounty.gov. This is the eighth traffic fatality this year compared to six at this time last year.
