The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island until 7:30 pm Tuesday.

At 4:30 pm, radar indicated a thunderstorm near Pāhala in the Ka´ū District with rain fall rates around 1 inch per hour.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Punalu´u Beach, Kawa Flats, Pāhala, Na´alehu, Wood Valley, Hawaiian Ocean View, Hawai´i Volcanoes National Park, Waiohinu, Discovery Harbour and Hawai´i Volcanoes Park Kahuku Unit.

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
