Live Aloha Art Festival to Host Digital Arts Festival

The Live Aloha Art Festival (LAAF) will be hosting a digital arts festival weekend of Mar. 26th through 28th, completely free for all-ages.

Now in its 3rd year, LAAF is a collaboration between Full Life Hawaiʻi, Abled Hawaiʻi Artists, Waiakea High School, University of Hawai’i (Hilo), The New Alchemists and a group of passionate community members. LAAF says it is committed to creating inclusive, transformative arts experiences that anyone can access and benefit from.

“Visualizing Dissent” University of Hawaiʻi-Hilo Student Showcase – Friday, March 26: 5:30-7pm HST

Kick off LAAF 2021 with organizers and UH Art Students who have been spending the semester creating original works of art on the theme of “Visualizing Dissent”. Watch a short video of their process and then join us for a panel discussion with students and UH-Hilo Professor of Art Michael Marshall to hear more about the role of art in activism and community organizing.

Film Screening and Talkback– “Inundation” with Donkey Mill Arts Center – Saturday, March 27: 4-7pm HST

Spend night 2 of LAAF enjoying a screening of four special videos in Donkey Mill Art Center’s Inundation series. Inundation refers to both the watery disasters of climate change and the overwhelming emotions they evoke. For LAAF audiences – the experience of being surrounded by water, the experience of lo’i halo of being moved by ocean currents, shifting in its tides – and thriving – can open new conversations. Join us from 4-6pm for the screening, and from 6-7pm for a conversation with artists and curators.

Third Annual LAAF Film Festival – Sunday, March 28: 2-5pm HST

A short film showcase featuring 9+ films made by and featuring Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, Black, and Disabled artists and community members. Featured filmmakers include: Enyi Zhu, Kylene Harrington, Sarah Kim, Juan Gutierrez, Anuj Jamadagni, Jacob Chong, Aubrinae Washington, and Orange Chan.
