UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa until 6 am Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a winter storm advisory for Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa through Tuesday morning, March 9.

A winter storm watch remains in effect until Tuesday night.

Deep moisture continues to spread over the area from the southeast, while sub-freezing temperatures remain over the summits. Periods of snow and freezing rain are expected, with the potential for heavy snow.

Anyone planning travel to the summits, including hikers and campers, should monitor the latest forecasts and consider postponing their trips until the threat of unsettled weather diminishes.
