The Hawai‘i Convention Center has received a 2019 Venue Excellence Award from the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM). The award was presented during the 94th annual VenueConnect in Chicago to Teri Orton, general manager of the Hawai‘i Convention Center.

The award recognizes five IAVM member venues for management excellence including amphitheaters, arenas, auditoriums, casinos, complexes, convention centers, exhibit halls, fair/festival grounds, performing arts centers, race tracks, stadiums and university venues.

“This award honors the work of our entire team for providing world-renowned service and aloha to each of our guests,” Orton said. “During the past year, we were proud to welcome a variety of major conferences and international sports tournaments, and develop new and engaging community events, such as Sunset Mele and Night Market. We also rolled out numerous amenities to provide additional convenience, as well as launch our Hoʻomaluō environmental conservation program, which includes our Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.”

The Center is celebrating a year of major scientific and medical meetings, including the American Stroke Association’s International Stroke Conference in February, the Society of Gynecologic Oncology’s 50th Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer in March, the American Roentgen Ray Society’s annual meeting in May, and the IUTOX International Congress of Toxicology and National Medical Association’s 2019 Annual Convention & Scientific Assembly this month. The Center will also host OceanObs’19 in September and the Health Span Hawai‘i Summit in November.
