Hawaiian Kings of Swing Kahulanui, 2018 Hawaiian Grammy recipients for Best Jazz Album of the Year and Best Original Instrumental Composition, are coming to Gertrude’s Jazz Bar in Kailua-Kona for a show Sunday, July 28, 2019.

The set will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $35 at www.brownpapertickets.com or for $40 at the door. Reservations may be made at [email protected] or by calling (808) 327-5299.

Kahulanui is comprised of originator Rodgers Lena Naipo on lead vocals and guitar, Patrick Eskildsen on bass guitar and vocals, Robert Duke Tatom on ukulele and vocals, Tim Taylor on drums/percussion and Dwight Tokumoto on steel guitar.

The horn section is rounded out by primary horn arranger Jesse Snyder on tenor sax and clarinet, Bill Noble on alto saxophone, Joshua Timmons on trumpet and Jenny Brown on trombone.

Kahulanui also performs with ipu, which are drum gourds, as well as ohe hano ihu, a nose flute. Both traditional Hawaiian instruments.

Kahulanui recordings include Hula Kui, From Hawaii to New York and Hoku award-winning Mele Ho’oilina. Recordings along with additional information on the scheduled Kailua-Kona performance may be found at www.kahulanui.com.
