Waiakea Dominates the Links at Volcano Country Club
It was another dominant day by the Waiakea Warriors on the links Monday.
Working through the rainy and chilly conditions, the Warriors swept both the boys and girls individual and team titles during the BIIF’s meet at Volcano Country Club. Ciera Min shot a 73 (+1) to breeze by the competion, winning the individual event for the girls by eight strokes over Kamehameha-Hawaii’s Kiana Lumanlan. Min’s teammate, Andi Igawa, finished 10 strokes back. Min picked up her second top-three finish of the season through three events. She finished second to teammate Nani Yanagi at the season opening event at Waimea Country Club on March 6th.
On the boys side, Chad Suzuki shot a 37 on the back nine to take a one stroke edge over Hilo High’s Davin Yagi, shooting a 77 (+5) to win. Hawaii Prep’s Andrew Paisley followed with an 80 (+8). Suzuki won for the second time this year, winning the season opener at Waimea Country Club by two strokes. He also finished third to Kealakehe’s Steve Kim at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course, falling short by two strokes.
For the third time, Waiakea (243) won the girls team score over Hilo High (315), with the Waiakea (337) boys did the same by ten strokes over Hilo (347).
The league schedule continues on Thursday, April 4th at Waikoloa Village. The one-day event will get underway at 10:00 a.m.
