Hawaii Flag to Fly at Half-Staff Tuesday
Gov. Neil Abercrombie on Friday ordered that the Hawaii flag is to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday at all state offices in memory of the late King George Tupou V of Tonga.
Funeral services for the 63-year-old monarch who died March 18 will be held March 26-27 in the South Pacific nation which has declared those days a national holiday.
Abercrombie said since ascending to the throne in 2006 the king was a political reformer who fostered a more open system of government and economy, and pioneered a process of peaceful democratization.
