Most State Parks to Reopen Today
Many state parks in Hawai‘i will reopen at various times on Saturday after staff members have a chance to access damage left in the wake of now Tropical Storm Lane.
On Hawai‘i island, all parks are expected to reopen except for Wailoa River State Recreation Area.
DLNR Division of State Parks Administrator Curt Cottrell said, “We think any damage to state parks was minimal at worst and we appreciate the kokua many park users showed in staying out of parks during the storm. We closed parks in the interest of public safety.”
Information about reopening lands under the jurisdiction of the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) will be released as soon as it’s available. It is anticipated that after DOFAW assessments, most lands, including forest and natural area reserves, will reopen shortly.
