Study: Hawai‘i 5th in Nation for Gender Equality
A new study released by the personal finance website WalletHub reports that women in Hawai‘i receive equal treatment more than the majority of U.S. states.
The study, ”Best and Worst States for Women Equality,” determined gender equality rankings throughout the country by assessing workplace environments, education and health systems, and political empowerment for women.
The findings show that overall, Hawai‘i ranks 5th in the nation for gender equality. More specifically the Aloha State ranked 1st in the U.S. for gender equality among advanced education holders as well as unemployment rates. Hawai‘i also ranked 5th for equality in working hours and 8th for both working hours and entrepreneurship.
Women’s Equality in Hawai‘i (1=best; 25=average):

- 1st – Educational Attainment Gap (Among Advanced Degree Holders)

In 2017, the U.S. dropped to 49th in the world out of 144 countries from its previous rank of 45th, as reported by the Global Gender Gap Index.
