It’s Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, the second Wednesday of the month, so East Hawai‘i residents once again lined up for their monthly fill of prime rib from KTA Puinako in HiloMany residents stayed home today due to the pending storm.

The plates have been a big hit on the Big Island. Just two months ago, the store upped the price from from $13.99 to $14.99 a plate—yet hungry Hilo residents (and others) are more than willing to stand in long lines to get their delicious dinners.

The line typically starts around 2:30 p.m., a full hour before KTA begins serving plates around 3:30 p.m. With Hurricane Hector weighing in on peoples minds, not many people were out on the roads today and the line-up today was fairly short.

Each plate comes with two scoops of rice and a side of corn, as well as au jus and horseradish.

The store typically sells out, so getting there early is a key to landing a ready-made feast, however, with the hurricane that was predicted, there was plenty for everyone as of 4 p.m. today.

KTA Puainako is located at 50 East Puainako St. in Hilo.
