Filmmaking Panel Coming to Hilo, Aug. 25

Are you interested in making films? A filmmaking panel is coming to the Hilo Palace Theater on Aug. 25, 2018, as part of Made in Hawai‘i Film Festival, presented by the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel, Castle Resorts & Hotels.

Held from 10 to 11:30 a.m., the panel, titled “Getting Your Project Off the Ground, Independent Filmmaking in Hawai‘i,” will cover a large swath of what it means to be a filmmaker in Hawai‘i.

Topics include how to start a project in Hawai‘i, development, financing and grant opportunities, production insights, Made-in-Hawai‘i success stories and more.

Panelists include:

• Gerard Elmore, Executive Director, ‘Ohina Short Film Showcase
• Justin Finestone, Hawai‘i Island Film Commissioner
• Brian Kohne, Director, Kuleana
• Ciara Lacy, Executive Producer, Out of State
• Alika Maikau, Co-director, Keep You Float
• Nicole Naone, Producer, Waikīkī

“Filmmakers in Hawai‘i are working to reclaim our narrative, and every year our collective skills improve as writers, directors, and producers,” says Brian Kohne, director of Maui-made cultural feature KULEANA, screening as the festival’s closing film. “I am honored to share development, production, and marketing insights along with other professionals during our panel discussion. For the island creative, Hilo’s the place to be on August 25 if you’re looking to check out cool flicks, network, or simply get in the game.”

The panel will be moderated by the festival’s Executive Director, Zoe Eisenberg.
