Hospice of Kona: Volunteer Certification Course Begins July 24

From hair stylists and massage therapists, to patient companions and bereavement support, volunteers with Hospice of Kona (HOK) spent 10,500 hours caring for West Hawai‘i residents with long term illnesses or grieving a loved one’s death. 

Those interested in becoming an HOK “Star of Service” volunteer, may do so by attending trainings held at HOK’s offices (75-5925 Walua Rd., Suite 102), 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on July 24 and 31, and Aug. 7 and 14. To register, contact Deann Canuteson, Director of Volunteer Services, (808) 443-2936 or dcanuteson@hospiceofkona.org. Attending all four meetings is mandatory to become a Certified Hospice Volunteer. Attendees are asked to dress comfortably and bring a brown bag dinner. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

“Our volunteers work in a number of positions throughout Hospice’s many programs, including in the Memory Lane Thrift Shop, Nakamaru Hale hospice residential home, in our office, as patient caregivers and others,” said Canuteson. “Every person in every volunteer position provides important care and support for hospice’s patients and their families.”
