Victim of Single-Vehicle Crash Identified
A 48-year-old Hilo man died following a single-vehicle crash Monday morning, July 16, 2018, on Highway 130 in Keaʻau.
He was identified as Peter Veincent Jr.
Responding to a 12:57 a.m. call, police determined that a 2001 Mazda sports-utility vehicle driven by Veincent was traveling south (Pāhoa-bound) on Highway 130 and crossed the centerline and struck a rock embankment at the intersection of Pohaku Place.
Veincent was transported by Ambulance to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:01 a.m.
He was not wearing a seatbelt, and it is unknown at this time if speed or intoxication were factors in this crash.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

This is the 17th traffic fatality this year compared with 20 at this time last year.
