Social Giving Campaign to Benefit Charities in Hawai‘i
Hawaiʻi Medical Service Association (HMSA) and Sharecare, the digital health company helping people manage all their health in one place, is launching a social giving campaign to donate up to $500,000 to the following five charities in Hawai‘i between now and November 2018: Helping Hands Hawai‘i, Make-A-Wish Hawai‘i, Special Olympics Hawai‘i, the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation and the Laulima Giving Program.
“At HMSA, we’re committed to empowering not only our members to live their healthiest, happiest, most productive lives, but all residents of Hawai‘i,” said Jennifer Diesman, senior vice president of market and product development at HMSA. “Embarking on this campaign enables us to do that in an innovative and dynamic way. We’re proud to partner with Sharecare to give the people of Hawai‘i the tools they need to improve their own health while giving back to local nonprofit organizations that benefit our friends, families and neighbors across the islands.”
For each resident who downloads the free Sharecare app and completes the RealAge Test—the app’s personalized health assessment, Sharecare will donate one dollar to each of the five benefitting charities. Additionally, for every “green day” Sharecare users earn—obtained when they meet their daily goals across key health indicators such as stress, activity, sleep, blood pressure, medication adherence and diet—Sharecare will donate one additional dollar, which will be evenly distributed among the participating charities. Additionally, each month between now and November, one of the five charities will be featured on social media through Sharecare’s and HMSA’s respective social channels as follows:
- July: Helping Hands Hawai‘i
- August: Make-A-Wish Hawai‘i
- September: Special Olympics Hawai‘i
- October: Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation
- November: Laulima Giving Program
“Hawai‘i has long served as a model for healthy, balanced living, and we have witnessed firsthand HMSA’s commitment to help not only to their members but also all the people of Hawai‘i live their healthiest, happiest, most productive lives,” said Jeff Arnold, chairman and CEO of Sharecare. “Additionally, research shows that the act of giving or helping others is related to positive social relationships, life purpose, better mental health and reduced stress—all of which contribute to one’s overall well-being. With this campaign, we’re proud to honor the residents of Hawai‘i for their efforts to improve their health by reinvesting in the organizations that provide people in their communities with additional support when they need it most.”
Together, Sharecare and HMSA are accelerating the transformation of health and well-being in Hawai‘i through innovative solutions and community-driven initiatives. Just one year after HMSA launched the free Sharecare app for all residents of Hawai‘i at the “Live Your Best Life” event on Maui, featuring television pioneer Oprah Winfrey, this campaign marks the kickoff of the Sharecare Movement in Hawai‘i, an initiative designed to rally residents around improving their personal health as well as the overall well-being of people across the islands.
