Maunakea Speakers Series to Feature Honoka‘a Students

The July Maunakea Speakers Series at ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center will feature the research of two Honoka‘a High School students—Hokunani Sanchez and Keilani Steele—who are studying dark nebulae and dwarf galaxies.The free public talk will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018, beginning at 7 p.m. at ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center’s Moanahoku Hall.

Both accomplished Maunakea Scholars, Sanchez and Steele will present the results of their 2017 research investigating the Draco Dwarf Galaxy using the W.M. Keck Observatory. Canada-France-Hawai‘i Telescope (CFHT) Director Doug Simons and outreach manager Mary Beth Laychak will close the presentation with details on the past, present and future of the Maunakea Scholars program.
