Looking Ahead

A high pressure ridge weakening far to the north of the islands and a passing low level trough will cause wind directions to shift to a more southeasterly direction this morning. Expect enhanced shower activity favoring windward slopes of each island though Saturday. Volcanic emissions from the Kilauea volcano and east rift zone will push west and northwest of emission sources, moving as far north as Hilo today through Saturday morning. High pressure will build back in across the state on Sunday and Monday with a drying trend and moderate trade winds returning to a more east to northeast direction. These wind directions will likely push volcanic emissions towards the southwest away from most of the island population centers.
