Man Dies in Highway 130 Accident
A man in his 50’s passed away following an accident on Highway 130.
Hawai‘i County Fire Department (HFD) reports that on Monday, May 21, 2018, at 2 p.m., firefighters responded to a one-vehicle rollover type accident on Highway 130 (Pāhoa/Kalapana Road) around the 21 mile marker.
HFD reports that a SUV was travelling north on Highway 130, when it lost control and was involved in a one-car rollover type accident that left debris all over the highway.
Upon arrival of the accident, firefighters found a male laying prone in the roadway dead-on-arrival after being ejected from the SUV.
Firefighters turned the scene over to the Hawai‘i Police Department for further investigation.
Speed appears to be a factor in this crash.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

This is the 11th traffic fatality this year compared with 15 at this time last year.
