Hawai‘i Police Department’s South Hilo Community Police responded to five burglaries, eight vehicle thefts and 10 vehicle break-ins over the 14-day period from Friday through Thursday, April 6 to 19, 2018.
Two of the eight stolen vehicles were recovered at the time this report was published.
The complete list of crime locations and dates are as follows:
5 BURGLARIES
On April 8 between 2:20 and 11:30 p.m., unknown suspect(s) entered a residence located near the 200 block on Kapili Avenue through a front window without permission. Various items removed from within.
On April 8 between 12:30 and 6:30 a.m., unknown suspect(s) entered a hotel room located near the 300 block on Iliahi Street by unknown means. Stolen was $100 US currency and a Bose headphones.
Between April 12 at 4 p.m. and April 13 at 4 a.m., unknown parties entered a business warehouse on the Old Māmalahoa Highway in Papaikou without permission and removed two Toyota flatbed pickup trucks (443HDU, white 1989 Toyota flatbed and 104HEB, white 1995 Toyota flatbed), as well as several full gas cans valued at $600. A third Toyota flatbed was entered and damaged (102HEB). Damage also sustained to another vehicle as well as several plants and gate lock.
On April 18 between 2 and 5:30 a.m., two unknown suspect(s) entered a business near the 800 block on Kino‘ole Street by unknown means. This was observed by employee’s viewing video surveillance at a later time. Nothing of value was removed.
Between April 15 and 18, unknown suspect(s) removed several items from a residence located near the 100 block on Hema Street without permission. Items taken described as a blue, reusable Walmart bag filled with unknown items and a green military-type duffel bag with various contents. Entry method is unknown.

1 On April 6 between 6 and 7:15 p.m., unknown suspect(s) removed a gray/blue 1997 Toyota 4X4 LX pickup, bearing plates HXT500 without permission, from a business parking lot located near the 600 block on Imiloa Place. Truck not located.
2 Between April 6 at 11 p.m. and April 7 at 5 a.m., a green Sym moped bearing Hawai‘i license # H000592 was stolen from a residence located near the 1400 block on Ala Kula Street. Moped not located.
3 On April 11 between 1 and 4:45 p.m., a white 2001 Toyota Tacoma bearing Hawai‘i license plate ZBD146 was stolen from a business parking lot near the 100 block on Pauahi Street. Truck not located.
4, 5 Between April 12 at 4 p.m. and April 13 at 4 a.m., unknown parties entered a business warehouse on the Old Māmalahoa Highway in Papaikou without permission and removed two Toyota flatbed pickup trucks (443HDU and 104HEB), as well as several full gas cans valued at $600. A third Toyota flatbed was entered and damaged (102HEB). Damage also sustained to another vehicle as well as several plants and gate lock. Trucks not located. (Reports connected to burglary above.)

6 Between April 14 at 10 p.m. and April 15 at 5 a.m., unknown suspect(s) removed a blue/green 1994 Honda Accord 4DSD without permission from a residence located on Kapehu Street in Pepe‘ekeo. Vehicle located on April 15 in Hilo.
7 On April 17 between 3:45 a.m. and midnight, a light teal, stock 2000 Honda Civic bearing Hawai‘i license plate # ZDV081 was taken from the parking area south of the Civic Auditorium on Manono Street. Vehicle not located.
8 On April 15 between 6 and 7 p.m., unknown suspect(s) had removed a 2001 Ford Focus, bearing plate # MHK570 from the roadway fronting a residence located near the 500 block on Ho‘opuni Street. Vehicle located in Puna on April 15.

On April 6 at 4:35 pm, Scott FULLER, 27, was arrested for the offense of UEMV 1. A female, 44, reported that she observed FULLER enter her 2015 Kia Soul in a parking lot near the 200 block on Kanoelehua Avenue, through an
unlocked front passenger side door and remove her black purse with wallet and an envelope containing $450 cash without her permission. An officer located FULLER with the victim’s purse a short time later on Operations Road. A show-up was conducted with woman where she positively identified FULLER as the suspect. FULLER was charged with UEMV 1 (for entering the vehicle) and Theft 3 (for the theft of the purse). His bail was set at $2,500.
On April 8 between 3 and 11 am, unknown suspect(s) had made entry into a 1987 Mercedes 4DSD while it was parked on Kohola Street, without permission by unknown
method. Removed was an Alpine radio valued at approximately $200. No other items were removed and no damage to the vehicle was observed.
On April 11 between 3 and 8:20 p.m., unknown suspect(s) attempted to break into a parked 2003 Toyota Tacoma truck bearing license # JZA460, in a parking lot near the 200 block on Kawili Street. No items were taken from his vehicle, but the driver’s-side door handle and locking mechanism were damaged.
On April 12 between 4 and 4:30 pm, unknown suspect(s) entered into a silver 2003 Toyota Tacoma while it was parked in a parking lot near the 100 block on Puainako Street. The driver’s-side key lock and ignition were damaged, and removed were some personal items.
Between April 12 at 4 p.m. and April 13 at 4 a.m., unknown suspect(s) entered a business warehouse on the Old Māmalahoa Highway in Papaikou. Suspect(s) gained access to Toyota flatbed pickup truck (102HEB) and damaged the ignition.
On April 12 between noon and 3 p.m., unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked 2001 Nissan Frontier truck which was parked in the front yard of a residence located near the 1300 block on Kumukoa Street. Miscellaneous personal items were removed.
On April 15 between 3:30 pm and 4 pm, unknown suspect(s) entered a 2018 Kia Rio, while it was parked in the area near the Onomea Trail entrance. The rear passenger side window had been shattered and an olive green bag with pink flowers on it had been removed.
On April 16, a a 33-year-old woman reported that at around 11 a.m. she got into a heated verbal
dispute with her 44-year-old ex-boyfriend while at his residence located on Wiliko Lane. The argument escalated to a physical altercation. The woman stated that the ex assaulted her within the residence, and assaulted her again while she tried to get away in her 2001 Kia 4DSD. Abuse of a Family or Household Member case was also generated.
Between April 18 at 5 p.m. and April 19 at 5 a.m., unknown suspect(s) attempted to break into a white Ford Mustang convertible rental while it was parked in a parking lot near the 100 block of Banyan Drive. Nothing was removed.
Between April 18 at 7 p.m. and April 19 at 7 a.m., unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked 1995 Ford Ranger that was parked at a farm lot located near the 700 block on Kealakai Street. A Stihl chainsaw and an Alpine stereo deck were removed from the truck.
