Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation Names New Chief Financial Officer
The East Hawai‘i Region of Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation has named Joni Waltjen as the new Chief Financial Officer. Over the course of three years, she has functioned as the Region’s Interim Chief Financial Officer and Comptroller.
“I wholeheartedly welcome Joni in her official role,” said Dan Brinkman, East Hawai‘i Regional CEO of Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation. “She possesses the expertise and skill it takes to lead our region’s finances. I am particularly impressed with her rising through the ranks over the course of her 16-year career at Hilo Medical Center.”

Waltjen is a 1994 graduate of Hilo High School and University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, where she earned her degree in Business Administration with a focus on Finance. She earned her certification in revenue cycle through Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). Joni is a director on the HFMA Hawai‘i Chapter board. In 2014, she received HFMA’s FOLLMER Bronze Merit Award. She also serves on the Puna Community Medical Center as a director and the finance and audit committee chair. Joni is a longtime volunteer for Hilo Medical Center Foundation’s Wine, Cheese, Chocolates and MORE! fundraiser and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. She and her husband Kendall are raising their son Keoni in their hometown and enjoy watching his adventures in soccer and basketball.
