Hawai‘i Volcano Overflight: ‘Superb Lava Activity’
Eruptive activity continued on the east rift zone of Kīlauea Volcano on April 5, 2018, and although that morning’s Paradise Helicopters’ flight was limited to the upper flow field just east of Puʻu ʻŌʻō because of low cloud cover.
The latest breakout and superb lava activity kept the crew entertained for the entire flight with large lava outbreaks, amazing pahoehoe flows folding like drapes, and numerous skylights, surrounded by a steamy flow field within just one mile of the vent.
No activity could be seen anywhere else on the flow field.
