WHCHC Offers Free Fitness Activities, Classes

West Hawaii Community Health Center (WHCHC) invites community members of all ages to attend free fitness activities and classes throughout the week.

These hour-long classes help promote an active lifestyle that improves health, reduces the risk of chronic illness, controls weight and decreases stress.

“At West Hawaii Community Health Center, we are committed to helping our community develop good, healthy habits that have long-reaching health benefits,” said West Hawaii Community Health Center CEO Richard Taaffe. “Health and wellness initiatives like these fun, free well-being classes are an important part of treating the whole person and improving patient care.”

Health and wellness classes offered by the West Hawaii Community Health Center are designed to promote healthy lifestyles, are open to everyone in the community and are offered free of charge.

Pound On Mondays, WHCHC’s Kealakehe Health Center Pavilion rocks out with the newest workout craze, Pound! Designed for all levels of fitness, Pound is a full body cardio-jam workout using weighted drum sticks. Shake off those Monday blues and drum it out with WHCHC starting at 5:30 p.m. Bring a yoga mat, water and wear exercise attire.

Hula for Health On Tuesdays, getting healthy takes on an island feel with Hula for Health. This hula class gets going at Hale Halawai County Pavilion (75-5760 Ali‘i Drive) in Historic Kailua Village starting at 2:30 pm. Wear comfortable clothing and bring an extra scoop of aloha spirit.

Tai Chi Every Thursday, WHCHC offers Tai Chi, a wonderful art that gently exercises the body and the mind with slow motion movements that are non-impact and easy to learn. Tai Chi starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Kealakehe Health Center Pavilion. Bring water and wear light athletic or reef shoes.

West Hawaii Community Health Center’s Kealakehe location is at 74-5214 Keanalehu Drive, just up the hill from Kealakehe High School.
