Man Arrested in Puna Was Shooting at Dog, Police Say

Police detectives have charged a Hilo man with a variety of offenses in connection with a shooting incident Tuesday in the Hawaiian Acres subdivision.

In the incident, a 47-year-old Volcano man was traveling with his family on Road 10 when he heard a gunshot and felt something impact his van. When he realized that one of his van’s windows was shattered, he drove off and called police.

Chun was charged with reckless endangering, having a firearm without a permit, promotion of a detrimental drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged with commercial promotion of marijuana for alleged possession of marijuana plants.

Including the driver, there were six people in the vehicle, and none of them were hurt. The American-made van that they were in was recovered by police as part of the ongoing investigation.

Ivan Okada, 47, of Kurtistown was also arrested but was released without charges pending further investigation.
