Aerial Circus Show Returns to Palace Theater on Feb. 9

Hilo Palace Theater will present an exciting evening of aerial circus for one night only by the Mirabilia Aerial Co. on Friday, Feb. 9, beginning at 7 p.m. Titled “Love in the Air,” the 90-minute show will feature 16 aerial artists performing 18 acts on silks, lyra, rope, hammock, straps, hair hang, pole and more.

The performance will showcase an all-female lineup of international artists hailing from around the world including Indonesia, Columbia, Germany, Italy and Sweden, as well as several Hawai‘i Island natives. Victoria Roosenrot, currently performing with Maui’s beloved ‘Ulalena, will debut her cupid hairhang routine; Lilia Cangemi will take the stage as Venus in her multimedia fabric act “Venus Rising;” and Maja Nilsson will return with her tennis racket contortion act.

“The theme of love was an obvious choice for us,” said show producer Zoe Eisenberg, who is co-producing the event alongside Bella O’Toole, an aerial instructor who teaches at Pacific Gymnastics facility in Hilo. “Not only because the show is being held in February, but because we’re living in a time where we could all use a little more love and compassion.”

Eisenberg and O’Toole previously worked together in a duo lyra act, and have produced several aerial shows including a 2017 performance at the Hilo Palace Theater and a 2016 show at Kalani Honua.

“We encourage all our artists to choreograph their own routines, which inspires more creativity and diversity in the show,” said O’Toole, founder of Mirabilia Aerial Co.

Several acts performed in “Love in the Air” will include sensual self expression and the evening is rated PG-13.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door and can be purchased online or in-person at the Hilo Palace box office. A select amount of reserved seats are available for $30 through the box office.
