Traditional Japanese Arts in Hawai‘i
A performance of traditional Japanese Arts by Shamisen Master Goshiro Kineya, will be held at the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo on Thursday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m.
More than 60 artists from Japan will perform classical Japanese dance, melodies and the theatrical music of Kabuki traditions on traditional Japanese instruments including Shamisen, Koto, Shakuhachi and Yokobue (Japanese flute).
“The artists, from all parts of Japan, are excited to share the traditions and culture of Japan with audiences in Hawai‘i,” said Master Kineya. “I hope that sharing these time-honored practices will contribute, in a small way, to fostering a vibrant cultural exchange between Japan and the U.S., in particular, Hawai‘i.”
