Christmas Music with Mikala & Friends
The Hilo Palace Theatre and Mikala Thomas invite the public for an afternoon of Christmas music in Hilo on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017. The concert is a benefit for for the theater’s soon-to-be air conditioning system.
Denyse Woo from KBIG FM will serve as the master of ceremonies, as Thomas and his friends—Justine Thompson, Jackie Pualani Johnson, Rachel Edwards, Norman Arancon, Reina Dawn, Christopher Tomich, Rick Jitchaku, Bernard-Benjamin Villa and Mimi Tincher—perform songs accompanied by piano, ʻukulele, bass, drums, dance and more.
Some of the songs to be shared include I Bought You a Plastic Star for Your Aluminum Tree, A Five Pound Box of Money, Everybody’s Waiting’ for the Man with the Bag, Christmas Time is Here, The Christmas Song, I Pray on Christmas and more.
Thomas has performed with many partners around the Big Island including the University of Hawaiʻi-Hilo’s Theatre Department, Kilauea Drama and Entertainment Network (KDEN), Performance Art Learning Center (PALC) at Hilo High School, accompanist for Pedro Kaʻawaloa’s shows, pianist for the East Hawaiʻi All Star Jazz Orchestra and many other concerts, shows and benefit events. He has also been a piano accompanist for shows at Hawaiʻi Museum of Contemporary Art (East Hawaiʻi Cultural Center). This is his first Christmas show in Hilo.
The concert begins at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Palace Theater box office or over the phone with a credit card at (808) 935-7010, Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for general seating and $20 for center reserved seating. The theater is located at 38 Haili St. in Hilo.
