Kailua Kalikimaka Kicks Off Holiday Events
Kailua Village will celebrate the holiday season with events and activities beginning with the tree lighting on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, as Kailua Kalikimaka brings in a sleigh full of holiday cheer.
Kailua Kalikimaka Tree Lighting
Kailua Village Business Improvement District begins the festivities on Friday, Nov. 24, the day after Thanksgiving, with the lighting of the Christmas tree at Emma’s Square (located across from Hulihe‘e Palace). This tree lighting tradition gets started at 5:45 p.m. Special musical guest Darlene Ahuna performs classic holiday favorites as Kumu Hula Kenneth Aloha Victor brings his award-winning Halau Kala‘akeakauikawekiu for holiday hula. Plan for a festive selfie spot with Miss Kona Coffee and Miss Aloha Hawaii as the tree lights up and signals the start of the holiday season, welcoming everyone to Historic Kailua Village with a reminder to shop, dine and buy local.
Dinner and a Movie Night
On Saturday, Dec. 2, bring the entire family down to Kona Commons for Dinner and a Movie Night. This family fun night gets underway at 5 p.m. with free photos with Santa, popcorn, Christmas caroling with Aunty Tutu and a free big screen showing of the Disney movie Moana. The film will be screened in the former Sports Authority. Lawn chairs are allowed but coolers are not permitted.
Kokua Kailua
Looking for locally made crafts for under the tree? Be sure to shop local at Kokua Kailua on Sunday, Dec. 10, from 1 to 6 p.m. on Aliʻi Drive. Support village merchants, artists and musicians as Aliʻi Drive becomes a pedestrian-only mall.
