Ka‘ū Brush Fire Burns 10 Acres

The Hawai‘i County Fire Department reported at 8 p.m. last night, Thursday, Oct. 5, that crews had been battling a brush fire with smoldering fires and hot spots along the edge of and within a ravine in the Ka‘ū District.

There were multiple, small spot fires within eucalyptus orchard.

Fire crews maintained the perimeter to prevent the fire from spreading.

On-duty personnel and a recall crew worked the perimeter during daylight hours, and the recall crew monitored the fire overnight.

Approximately 10 acres of heavy brush and trees inside of a deep ravine were destroyed.
