Big Island Surf Forecast
Hilo side: Surf heights are expected to waist/chest high to occasionally shoulder today.
Kona side: Surf heights are expected to be up to waist high today. Only trace amounts are expected to wrap into the Kona side.
South: Surf heights are expected to be waist high today on the sets for select breaks along the southeast coast and around South Point.
Our current southerly swell is forecast to fade over the weekend. Nothing of note is expected out of the South Pacific until about mid-month. There is a storm that could bring maybe waist high sets around the 13th, another stronger storm with a wider fetch is forecast around the 16th with wave heights possibly up to waist/chest high. Will keep an eye on these.
A series of northerly swells is expected. The largest is fading into the weekend. Another reinforcing swell from the north-northwest is due in next week Tuesday / Wednesday. Models are showing that it may be smaller than previously expected. Will keep an eye on it.
Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
